Everyone at Applegate and Dillman Elder Law is honored to serve our community by helping folks and their families age with dignity and security.
There is much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. This year, we will be able to travel and gather, and do so with relative ease and comfort. We still need to take COVID-19 precautions, but traditions are slowly returning after the toughest times most have ever endured. Although we are happy to celebrate all we have, we certainly have not forgotten all we have lost.
As many of you know, my work advocating for elderly citizens is very personal to me. Not only in my own family’s experience, but also through my work as President of the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels of Central Indiana. I’ve seen firsthand the complicated systems of services for the elderly that often leave out the most important part: care. I’d like to think that advocating on behalf of our clients is one way to care for them.
Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for what we have, and to give what we can. I can promise that your time and treasure can go a long way to making life better for older Hoosiers. Here is a short list of organizations in Central Indiana that support our senior neighbors:
- AARP – Central Indiana
AARP Indiana is committed to improving the lives of all Hoosiers as they age. The nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization helps people 50+ have independence, achieve goals and live better lives.
- Meals on Wheels of Central Indiana
Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization which offers weekday meal delivery for free or at a low cost for homebound individuals throughout the state.
- NeighborLink Indianapolis
NeighborLink Indianapolis is powered by partners willing to give of their time, talent and treasure. The organization provides services to low-income individuals with disabilities and senior homeowners in Marion County, at no cost.
Consider contributing or volunteering to one of these organizations or doing something small to share your blessings with another.
We are wishing all our clients and readers a happy and healthy holiday season!
